Since 2020, The Matthew Erik Academy has been providing academic support, soft skill lessons, and an opportunity to connect with other students. We offer part-time options for homeschoolers and virtual school students who would like to work on their assignments and classwork in a school-like environment.
Students come to our center and work on their schoolwork independently. We have two certified teachers and two teacher assistants at the center to offer assistance and support when needed. Whether students are simply looking for a traditional classroom to work on their assignments, prefer completing their work while surrounded by peers, or need assistance with a particular subject, The Matthew Erik Academy is the perfect setting.
Please send an email to kimcoluccio@matthewerik.com to find out if there is a spot available for your child and to request a registration packet. We have a limit of 20 students per day at the academy at this time.
Due to robust fundraising and grant writing efforts, and the generosity of many philanthropic donors, we are able to provide our academic services for a small monthly fee. The monthly tuition payments for the 2024-2025 school year are:
$140 per child
$100 per second child
$80 per third child
Monthly tuition includes attendance at the academy two days per week. We are open Monday-Thursday from 9:30-2:30 and students may stay for up to four hours on their two scheduled days. Our school year operates from mid-August to the end of April.
Monthly tuition payments are the same, regardless of how many hours are spent at the academy. Students wishing to attend only one day per week will be charged half the listed tuition. Students wishing to attend three or four days per week will be considered by special request only. Please email kimcoluccio@matthewerik.com to discuss your child's needs.
Our foundation is a non-profit 501c3 corporation and is dedicated to improving education not only at the academy, but in Brevard County. Your tuition payments and/or supplemental donations will be extremely helpful in aiding these efforts.
*Please note that laptops are available for student use, but at a rental rate of $10 per day and must be reserved in advance, as there are a limited number of laptops available.
There are multiple benefits to enrolling in The Matthew Erik Academy. Some of the reasons why you may consider our support center are listed below.
Many parents have considered homeschool or virtual learning as an education option but are uncomfortable providing academic support. Our center will offer a safe learning environment and provide the subject-specific assistance your child may need. There will be at least one state certified teacher on hand at all times, as well as several teacher assistants to provide help. Students are expected to work on their assignments independently, but teachers are available for questions, advice, and tutoring when needed.
Our center provides the social aspect that most virtual or homeschool programs cannot provide. We offer opportunities for socialization through both small and large group activities. Students work on their academic schoolwork while at the academy, but we also provide enrichment and cooperative learning experiences as well.
We support parents! One of our core beliefs is that the parent is a child's first, and most important teacher. Parents select the curriculum that best suits their child's needs and make all the decisions regarding their workload. We also help both new and veteran homeschool parents by offering free workshops on educational topics, free consulting and mentoring, and peace of mind knowing their children are in competent hands while at the academy.
Our center is conveniently located in the heart of Brevard County on North Wickham Rd. in Melbourne, which is easily accessible I-95 and US1. There is plenty to do nearby. Parents will have some free time to themselves while their children complete their schoolwork at the center! We are so grateful to Pastor Gibby for donating the classroom space at Life's Oasis Church for our academy needs.
The Matthew Erik Academy employs the philosophy that children are naturally excited and motivated to learn. By giving the students the freedom to work on their lessons independently and at their own pace, they will be more enthusiastic about their schoolwork. We also believe that students learn best in a comfortable, positive environment where it is safe to ask questions and explore topics that interest them. Students will learn to love learning at The Matthew Erik Academy!
Because The Matthew Erik Foundation is a non-profit corporation, you can feel confident knowing that all profits from your tuition and donations are going right back into serving our community. Expansion of the academy, addition of extracurricular teachers, enrichment activities, youth programs, and children's book giveaways are just some of the education initiatives we're currently working on.
The Matthew Erik Academy offers one-on-one tutoring instruction in math, reading, language arts, and general study skills. Tutoring sessions are offered in 30- or 60-minute blocks and must be scheduled at least one-week in advance. Please email kimcoluccio@matthewerik.com to discuss your tutoring needs.
At this time, private tutoring is limited to Monday-Thursday mornings between the hours of 8:00-10:00, during the school year. Additional times, days, or summer offerings may be added in the future.
Kim Coluccio, education specialist and lead teacher at the academy, offers consulting services to parents. New to Florida and want to know about the school system here? Have a question about your child's IEP services? Curious about how schools are funded and governed? Looking for tips for how to help your child with homework? Contact kimcoluccio@matthewerik.com to set up a time to meet in person or virtually. All consultation services are free, with no obligation, although a donation The Matthew Erik Foundation is always appreciated.
Parents workshops are presented several times a year. These workshops are always free and open to all parents/guardians, not just students who attend the academy. Please check our website periodically for dates and topics. Feel free to contact us with suggestions for future topics.
The academy is currently located at the Life's Oasis church classroom in Melbourne. The address is 3688 N. Wickham Rd. Unit C, behind the Running Zone. Thank you, Pastor Gibby, for your generosity in letting us use this wonderful space!
We are open on Monday-Thursday from 10:30-2:30pm. Additional days and times may be added in the future. Please note that we operate during the school year only and do not offer summer programs at this time.
